Tap to Pay on Android: Troubleshooting & FAQ

Use this guide if Tap to Pay on Android is not available, the device cannot connect, or a payment cannot be completed.

Tap to Pay on Android does not appear

Check that:

  • Payments are enabled for your Duranta account

  • Your Stripe merchant account is verified and connected

  • You are using the latest version of Duranta

  • Your Android device supports Tap to Pay on Android

  • Your device has NFC

  • NFC is turned on

  • Location Services are enabled

  • Duranta has location permission

Device is not supported

Tap to Pay on Android requires a compatible Android device.

Your device may not be supported if it:

  • Does not have NFC

  • Runs an older Android version

  • Does not have Google Mobile Services or the Google Play Store

  • Has an outdated security update

  • Is rooted

  • Has an unlocked bootloader

  • Uses a modified manufacturer OS

  • Has Developer options enabled

  • Is an Android emulator

Try using a different compatible Android device.

NFC is disabled

Tap to Pay on Android requires NFC.

To enable NFC:

  1. Open Android Settings.

  2. Search for NFC.

  3. Turn NFC on.

  4. Return to Duranta and try again.

The NFC setting may be in a different place depending on the device manufacturer.

Location permission is disabled

Tap to Pay on Android requires location access to process in-person payments.

To fix this:

  1. Open Android Settings.

  2. Go to Apps.

  3. Select Duranta.

  4. Open Permissions.

  5. Allow Location while using the app.

  6. Make sure Location Services are enabled for the device.

Then return to Duranta and try again.

Developer options are enabled

Tap to Pay on Android may not work when Developer options are enabled.

To fix this:

  1. Open Android Settings.

  2. Search for Developer options.

  3. Turn Developer options off.

  4. Restart Duranta.

  5. Try Tap to Pay on Android again.

The card does not read

Ask the customer to:

  • Hold the card closer to the tap area shown on the screen

  • Keep the card still for a few seconds

  • Try a different contactless card

  • Try Google Pay, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, or another digital wallet

  • Use another payment method if the card still cannot be accepted

Payment was declined

A declined payment can happen for several reasons, including card issuer rules, insufficient funds, or contactless payment limits.

Ask the customer to try:

  • The same card again

  • A different card

  • A digital wallet

  • Another payment method

Do not create duplicate charges. Confirm the payment status in Duranta before retrying.

Customer is asked for a PIN

Some contactless card payments may require PIN entry.

Let the customer enter their PIN privately on the secure PIN screen.

The PIN pad may appear off-center or in a different position on the screen. This is expected for security reasons.

PIN entry does not work

PIN entry may fail if the Android device is not in a secure state.

Check that:

  • Developer options are disabled

  • Screen recording is not active

  • No screen overlay apps are covering Duranta

  • The device has an active internet connection

If PIN entry still fails, ask the customer to try another card, use a digital wallet, or use another payment method.

Payment screen is slow to open

Make sure:

  • The device has a stable internet connection

  • Duranta is up to date

  • Location Services are enabled

  • NFC is enabled

  • The device is not in battery saver mode

  • The app remains in the foreground

Tap to Pay disconnected

Tap to Pay on Android may disconnect if the device loses internet connection, Android stops the payment service, or the app is moved to the background.

Return to Duranta, reconnect if needed, and try the payment again.

Can I use an Android tablet?

The tablet must meet the Tap to Pay on Android requirements, including NFC support, Android 13 or later, Google Mobile Services, Google Play Store, a recent security update, and a secure unmodified OS.

Not every Android tablet has NFC, so some tablets will not support Tap to Pay on Android.

Use a real compatible Android device.

Can I use Tap to Pay on Android without internet?

No. Tap to Pay on Android requires a stable internet connection.
