The AI Map automatically classifies a property into landscape and surface categories, such as lawn, beds, hedges, trees, buildings, paved surfaces, and more.
These categories help you review property measurements, understand the layout of a site, and prepare estimates and proposals more accurately.
How AI Map layers work
Most AI Map categories are measured as ground-level areas. These are the surfaces and features detected on the property, such as lawn, beds, paved surfaces, buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, ground, and pools.
Trees are treated as an upper layer because tree canopy can sit above another surface, such as lawn, beds, pavement, or ground.
Because trees can overlap the surface below, Duranta may show both:
Lawn - the total lawn area detected
Lawn excl. trees - lawn area with tree-covered portions removed
Use Lawn excl. trees when you need a more accurate lawn service area that does not include tree canopy coverage.

Category details
Category | Notes |
Lawn | Grass or turf areas on the property. |
Lawn excl. trees | The lawn area excluding parts covered by tree canopy. This is useful when estimating lawn care services where tree-covered areas should not be counted as part of the serviceable lawn. |
Beds | Planting beds, garden beds, or landscaped areas that may contain mulch, soil, flowers, plants, or other ground cover. |
Hedges | Continuous, linear plantings, such as trimmed boundary hedges or rows of shrubs. |
Bushes / Shrubs | Individual bushes, shrubs, or clustered plantings. |
Trees | Tree canopy or tree-covered areas detected on the property. Trees are shown as an upper layer because they may overlap other ground-level categories. |
Buildings | Structures, roofs, sheds, garages, or other building footprints. |
Fence | Fence lines or fenced property features detected by the AI Map. |
Paved surfaces | Hardscape areas such as driveways, patios, paved areas, and similar surfaces. |
Sidewalks | Walkways or sidewalk areas detected on or near the property. |
Parking lots | Larger paved parking areas. |
Ground | Bare earth, exposed soil, or ground areas that do not fall into another category. |
Pools | Pools or water features detected on the property. |
Where you’ll see AI Map categories
AI Map / Segments view
Categories appear as color-coded segments on the AI Map. Each category has its own label and measurement.
3D property view
Some categories also appear as layers in the 3D property view, so you can show, hide, or inspect them while reviewing the property.
Area breakdowns
AI Map measurements are used in the service area dropdown in proposals. This helps you estimate work based on detected areas.
