Use Work Areas to turn a measured AI segment into the area you will actually service.
For example, you can create a mulch band around planting beds, a trim strip around a building, or a clearance ring around trees. Duranta creates a new named polygon with its own square footage, then you can send it to a proposal as a service.
What is a work area?
Duranta’s AI measures a property into segments, such as lawn, beds, driveway, building, and trees.
Those segments show what is on the property.
A work area shows where your crew will actually work. It is usually created by adding a band around one or more selected segments.
Typical examples include:
2 ft mulch band around bed segments
10 ft trim strip around a building or fence line
3 ft clearance ring around trees
Lawn plus a 5 ft margin where the crew works beyond the measured lawn edge
Work areas are saved with the property, so you can come back to them later.
Before you start
The property needs a completed AI analysis before you can create a work area.
Work areas are built from AI segments, so Duranta needs segments to offset from.
Work areas are created and edited on the web app. The tool is not available in the mobile app yet.
Create a work area
Open the property.
On the map, select one or more segments to build from.
In the right panel, click + Work area.
Set the work area options.
Enter a Name.
Click Save.
The area readout updates as you change the settings.

Distance
Distance controls how far the work area extends from the selected segments.
The distance is measured in feet and can be set from 0 to 200 ft in half-foot steps.
Set the distance to 0 and turn on Include the source area if you want to create a named, proposal-ready copy of the selected segments without adding a band around them.
May overlap
May overlap controls which other segments the work area is allowed to cover.
By default, it is set to Nothing. This means the work area is trimmed back when it reaches another measured area.
For example, a 3 ft ring around beds will stop at the driveway instead of crossing over it.
Open the picker and select the segments the work area is allowed to cover. For example, if a mulch band can extend onto the lawn but should not cross the driveway, select Lawn and leave Driveway unselected.
Include the source area
Use Include the source area to decide whether the selected segments are included in the work area.
Off — creates only the band around the selected segments. Use this for edging, trimming, or clearance work.
On — includes the selected segments and the band around them. Use this when you are servicing the original area plus a margin around it.
Clip to the property boundary
Clip to the property boundary keeps the work area inside the parcel line.
Leave this on for work you plan to quote, especially when the selected segment is near a property boundary.
Name
The Name is required.
Duranta suggests a name based on the selected segments and distance, such as Lawn + 5 ft. You can replace it with a customer-friendly name.
The work area name becomes the service name when you send it to a proposal.
If Save is greyed out
If Save is disabled, Duranta shows why.

Manage work areas
Saved work areas appear under WORK AREAS in the property’s right panel.
Each work area shows:
A color chip
The work area name
The square footage
You can:
Use the eye icon to show or hide a work area on the map
Use the pencil icon to edit a work area
Use the trash icon to delete a work area
The eye icon next to the WORK AREAS heading shows or hides all work areas at once.
Add a work area to a proposal
Under each work area, use the proposal picker to choose the proposal where you want to add it.
Duranta creates a service from the work area and carries over:
The work area geometry
The work area square footage as the service area
The work area name as the service name
You can then price it like any other service.
Because the measurement comes from the work area, you are quoting the area your crew will actually service instead of the raw AI segment.
Example: mulch around beds
To quote mulch for beds plus a 10 ft edge:
Select all bed segments on the map.
Click + Work area.
Set Distance to 10 ft.
Under May overlap, select Lawn and leave other segments unselected.
Turn Include the source area on.
Keep Clip to the property boundary on.
Name it Mulch bed service area.
Save the work area.
Send it to the proposal.
The service is added with the actual coverage area, not just the original bed measurement.
