What is a Work Area?
Duranta's AI measures a property into segments such as lawn, beds, driveway, buildings, and trees.
A Work Area is the area you actually plan to service. It can be based on one or more AI segments and can include a set distance around them.
For example, you can create:
A 2 ft mulch band around beds
A 10 ft trim strip around a building or fence line
A 3 ft clearance area around trees
A lawn area with an additional 5 ft margin
What do I need before creating a Work Area?
The property needs a completed AI analysis.
Work Areas are created from AI segments, so there must be segments available to select.
Can I create Work Areas on mobile?
Not yet.
Work Areas are currently created and edited in the web app.
Are Work Areas saved?
Yes.
Work Areas are saved with the property and remain available when you return later.
Do Work Areas change my original AI measurements?
No.
Your original AI segments remain unchanged. A Work Area is a separate shape created from those segments.
How do I create a Work Area?
Open the property.
Select one or more segments on the map.
In the right panel, select + Work area.
Configure the Work Area settings.
Enter a Name.
Select Save.
The area measurement updates as you change the settings.
Can I create a Work Area from multiple segments?
Yes.
Select as many segments as you need before choosing + Work area. Duranta creates the Work Area from the combined selection.
What does Distance do?
Distance controls how far the Work Area extends from the selected segments.
You can enter a distance from 0 to 200 ft in half-foot increments.
Can I create a Work Area without an offset?
Yes.
Set Distance to 0 and turn on Include the source area.
This creates a named Work Area using the selected segments themselves without adding a band around them.
What does May overlap mean?
May overlap controls which other measured areas the Work Area is allowed to cover.
By default, it is set to Nothing. This means the Work Area stops when it reaches another measured area.
For example, a 3 ft band around a bed may stop when it reaches a driveway.
Open May overlap and select the segment types the Work Area is allowed to cover.
For example, if a mulch band can extend onto the lawn but should not cross a driveway, select Lawn and leave the driveway unselected.
What does Include the source area do?
When Include the source area is off, the Work Area includes only the offset around the selected segments.
This can be useful for:
Edging
Trimming
Clearance areas
When it is on, the selected segments are included as part of the Work Area.
Use this when you are servicing both the original area and the surrounding margin.
What does Clip to the property boundary do?
When Clip to the property boundary is on, the Work Area stays inside the property boundary.
This helps prevent an offset from extending beyond the property line.
For most areas you plan to quote, leave this setting on.
Does the Work Area name matter?
Yes.
The Work Area name becomes the service name when you add it to a proposal.
Choose a name that will make sense to the customer.
Duranta may suggest a name based on the selected area and distance, such as:
Lawn + 5 ft
You can replace the suggested name.
Why is Save disabled?
Duranta displays a message explaining what needs to be fixed.
Message | What it means |
Select one or more segments on the map to offset from. | Select at least one segment on the map. |

We couldn't offset this selection. Try a different distance. | Try a different or smaller distance. |

Why is my Work Area empty?
The overlap rules or property boundary may have removed the entire area.
Try one of the following:
Allow additional segments under May overlap
Turn off Clip to the property boundary
Increase the Distance
Why does the Work Area stop at another segment?
By default, May overlap is set to Nothing.
This prevents the Work Area from covering other measured segments.
Use May overlap to select the areas it is allowed to cover.
Where are saved Work Areas?
Saved Work Areas appear under WORK AREAS in the property's right panel.
Each Work Area shows:
A color indicator
Its name
Its square footage
How do I show, edit, or delete a Work Area?
Each Work Area has controls for:
Eye — show or hide it on the map
Pencil — edit the Work Area
Trash — delete it
The eye next to the WORK AREAS heading shows or hides all Work Areas at once.
Can I edit a Work Area after saving it?
Yes.
Select the pencil to reopen the Work Area editor.
You can change settings such as the distance or overlap rules, and Duranta rebuilds the Work Area.
Why can't I see my Work Areas while building a proposal?
Work Area overlays are hidden while you are in proposal mode so they do not cover the proposal map.
How do I add a Work Area to a proposal?
Use the proposal picker under the Work Area.
Choose the proposal, and Duranta creates a service using:
The Work Area geometry
Its square footage as the service area
The Work Area name as the service name
You can then price it like any other service.
Why should I use a Work Area instead of the original AI segment?
A Work Area lets you price the area you will actually service rather than only the original measured shape.
For example, if your crew works 2 ft beyond the edge of a bed, a Work Area can include that additional coverage in the service measurement.
Does the Work Area name appear on the proposal?
Yes.
The Work Area name becomes the service name.
Can you give me an example?
Suppose you are quoting mulch for several beds and want to include a 2 ft edge around them.
Select all the bed segments.
Select + Work area.
Set Distance to 2 ft.
Under May overlap, select Lawn so the band can extend onto the grass without crossing other areas.
Turn on Include the source area.
Leave Clip to the property boundary on.
Name it Mulch beds + 2 ft edge.
Save the Work Area.
Add it to the proposal.
The proposal service uses the full Work Area measurement instead of only the original bed area.
