The Ruler Tool in the 2D property view

The Ruler tool helps you measure custom lengths and areas directly on the AI Map. You can use one tool for both precise point-by-point measuring and free-form drawing.

Use the Ruler to measure driveways, walkways, lawns, beds, curved areas, or any custom space that is not already detected by AI.

Where to find the Ruler

  1. Open any property AI map.

  2. Look at the bottom-right corner of the map.

  3. Click the Ruler icon to turn the tool on.

  4. Click the icon again to turn the Ruler off.

Two ways to draw

The Ruler supports two drawing methods.

Click to place nodes

Click point by point to place nodes on the map. This is best for precise straight lines or polygon shapes.

Use this for:

  • Driveways

  • Walkways

  • Property edges

  • Straight service areas

Press and hold to free-form draw

Press and hold, then drag across the map to draw a free-form line or shape. This is best for curved or irregular areas.

Use this for:

  • Curved garden beds

  • Irregular lawn areas

  • Custom cleanup zones

  • Areas AI did not detect correctly

You can also mix both methods in the same shape. For example, you can free-form draw a curve, then click to add a precise corner.

View lengths and areas

As you draw, the Ruler shows measurements directly on the map.

You can see:

  • Segment length in feet

  • Total length in feet

  • Enclosed area in square feet when the shape is closed

  • Perimeter in feet when the shape is closed

To measure an area, close the shape by connecting the last point back to the starting point. Once closed, the shape is filled on the map and shows the measured area and perimeter.

Create a service from a measured area

After drawing a closed area, you can turn that measurement into a maintenance service.

  1. Draw and close the area with the Ruler.

  2. Review the area and perimeter in the action bar.

  3. Click Create service.

  4. The measured area is automatically used as the service area.

You can draw the area manually and create a service without redrawing it.

Saved measurements

Measurements created with the Ruler are saved to the property.

After you draw a line or closed shape:

  1. The measurement appears on the property map.

  2. The total length, area, or perimeter is shown on the map.

  3. If you reload the page, the saved measurements appear again.

  4. You can toggle the Ruler on or off to show or hide saved measurements.

This means your measurements are saved with the property and are not lost when you refresh the page.

Viewing saved measurements in proposals

Saved measurements can also be viewed in other places for the same property.

Proposal / Add Maintenance view

In the proposal/ add maintenance view, you can use the Ruler icon to show or hide saved measurements.

Measurements are read-only in this view. You can view them, but you cannot edit them.

Add Install view

In the add install view, saved measurements are also shown as read-only.

Use this to reference previously measured lines or areas while building proposals or installs.

Tips

  • Measurements are shown in feet and square feet.

  • Turning the Ruler off clears unsaved measurements.

  • To keep a measured area, create a service from it before turning the Ruler off.

  • The Ruler is available on the AI Map before you open a proposal. In this view, you can draw and create new ruler measurements.

In Proposal → Add Maintenance Service or Add Install, the Ruler is in read-only mode. This means you can view existing ruler lines and polygons, but you cannot create new ones from those screens.

  • The Ruler is currently available on the web app. Mobile support is coming next.
