Imperial and metric units: FAQ

Find answers about measurement unit settings, how Both works, and what changes when your company switches between imperial and metric units.

For step-by-step instructions, see Imperial and metric units.

Finding the setting

Where do I change my measurement units?

In the web app:

  1. Open Settings.

  2. Select AI & Unit Settings.

  3. Find Measurement units.

In the mobile app:

  1. Open More.

  2. Select Account settings.

  3. Under Organization, select Measurement units.

Is the measurement unit setting per person or per company?

It is a company-wide setting.

Everyone on your team uses the same measurement unit settings in the web app and mobile app.

Can I choose different systems for different measurements?

Yes.

You can configure each measurement separately:

  • Area

  • Length/height

  • Volume

  • Weight

For example, your company can use metric units for length while continuing to use imperial units for area.

Which units are available?

What is my company set to by default?

New companies start with Imperial units.

The unit currently in use appears beside each measurement type, for example:

Area (sq ft)

Both and the Default system

What does Both mean?

When a measurement is set to Both, units from both imperial and metric systems are available.

Your team can enter a value using either system where a unit can be selected.

What does Default system control?

Default system determines which system is used by default for measurements set to Both.

For example, if:

  • Default system is Metric

  • Area is set to Both

New area values start in metric units, but you can still select the imperial unit when needed.

Does Default system affect measurements set to Imperial or Metric?

No.

Default system only affects measurements set to Both.

What changes when I switch units?

Where will I see the new units?

Your company's measurement settings are used across Duranta, including:

  • Maps

  • Installs and services

  • Materials

  • Charges and fees

  • Proposals

  • Invoices

  • Work orders

  • Site Scanner tables

  • CSV exports

  • Site Scanner images

  • Public site share pages

Do the amounts in my existing proposals and invoices change?

No.

Changing measurement units does not change monetary amounts.

For example, a price of $100 remains $100.

Measurements are displayed using your company's selected units.

What happens to Favorites saved in the other measurement system?

Duranta converts the Favorite when you use it.

For example, if a Favorite was saved using imperial units and your company now uses metric units, Duranta converts its measurements when you select it.

The original saved Favorite remains in the units it was created with.

Do my customers see the new units?

Yes.

Customer-facing content that displays measurements uses your company's current measurement units.

For example, if you switch from imperial to metric, measurements shown to customers use metric units.
